At the weekend I was in Wales for the Buff Winter Trail Wales and the Association of Mountaineering Instructors AGM.

We ran the beautiful trails of Coed y Brenin on Saturday, it was a very cold race with lots of mud and even snow but we had a fantastic time. After warming up with a cup of tea in our finishers' mug it was time to head over to Plas y Brenin for the Association of Mountaineering Instructors AGM on the Saturday night and a workshop by Rab and Lowe Alpine on the Sunday.

After a very long drive from Roybridge to Aviemore and

because of the amount of overnight snow myself and Ollie opted for a walk round Corrie An T-Sneachda and the Fiacail ridge today. conditions underfoot were a mixture of compressed snow and breakable crust but not too bad. The wind was pretty strong at times though :) The biggest issue today was avoiding crashing the car on the A86 (be careful out there). Thanks Axonsounds (Ollie) for the video.

Had the most beautiful skies today but some very strong winds on the East Ridge of Beinn A' Chaorainn. An amazing mountaineering grade II in some great surroundings. Although it was still unconsolodated powder, it was good climbing.

Had another great day climbing with Martyn today in the Cairngorms. We chose to climb Hidden Chimney in Mess of Pottage because of the lack of loose powder on it. The route was great but there were several teams on it and we had to wait for a bit longer than expected.

Had a really good first day out today in Coire An T-Sneachda with Martyn. The weather was a little bit Scottish with some strong winds at times and very cold temperatures. We chose an easy route because of the loose powder conditions and mostly swam and dug our way to the top.

Because I have booked my MIC training in February I was really looking forward to my first trip to Scotland of the winter season. Unfortunately, the weather gods decided to warm the Scottish hills up to summer temperatures the week before we were due to leave and so... we went to Rjukan in Norway. It's an amazing place with fantastic climbing, great scenery and lovely people.  I am excited for poor weather and conditions in Scotland again next year :)
